JAPAN SURVIVAL GUIDE 2024
Back in 2019, I was flying from Shanghai to New York and had arrived at the airport three hours early. With so much time on my hands, I decided to create a survival guide borne out of my study abroad experience in the city. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed documenting everything and decided it would be a fun, personal project to continue with other cities I visit.
In the Fall of 2024, I got the chance to travel to Japan, and had a blast! Carrying on my tradition from Shanghai, I drafted a very long Google Docs detailing my time there and travel tips I had picked up. However, this time, I thought it would be delightful to design the document, making it a visually appealing guide for any friends to read should they travel there too.
Japan is known for many things, and among them is vintage video games! As a video game enthusiast myself, I felt inspired to create a guide that would help you “win” your trip. I utilized 8-bit, video game style motifs and typography (Silkscreen from Google Fonts). I found many fitting icons to visually represent my tips, and when I couldn’t, I created them in Adobe Illustrator.
